Robins to host Pirates in Peter Bentley League Cup

Hassocks will face Division One side Bexhill United in the Peter Bentley League Cup on Tuesday 4th September.

The second round game between the Robins and the Pirates will take place at the Beacon with a 7.45pm kick off.

The two sides met at the exact same stage of the competition last season when Corey Wheeler’s extra time goal ensured that Bexhill upset their higher division hosts 1-0.

United have an excellent recent record against Hassocks, having also shocked Dave John’s side in the Sussex Senior Cup in the 2014-15 season.

They ran out 2-1 winners at the Polegrove on that occasion. Nathan Miles netted his first goal in over a year after returning from a lengthy injury to give Hassocks the lead in a first half they dominated, but a second half double from Jamie Morgan ensured the Pirates sailed into the next round.

With neither side having any interest in the FA Cup, it has been agreed to make use of their dates set aside for First Qualifying Round replays to play the tie.

The furthest Hassocks have ever gone in the Peter Bentley Cup is the semi final stage, which they’ve reached on one occasion in the 1995-96 season. Bexhill lifted the trophy in 1956 for their first ever piece of senior silverware.

Entrance will be priced at £6 adults, £3 concessions and under 16s can go free.
