Preview: Southwick U23 v Hassocks U23

A trip to Old Barn Way is next on the agenda for Hassocks Under 23s as they travel to Southwick on Thursday night.

The Robins record breaking 9-0 win over Midhurst & Easebourne last week saw them move up to second in the West Division table and although early days, Hassocks will have been encouraged by the champions of the previous two seasons Pagham going down 3-1 to Broadbridge Heath.

Southwick meanwhile have one win and one loss from their two games so far. They defeated Mile Oak 2-1 in a local derby in their opening game of the season and followed that up with a heavy defeat at Horsham YMCA.

Max Lester had given Southwick the lead inside of three minutes at Gorings Mead but that was as good as it got as YM scored six times to run out convincing 6-1 winners.

There should be plenty of goals if last seasons meetings between the Robins and the Wickers are anything to go by.

They shared eight at Old Barn Way in the penultimate game of the season as Hassocks won 5-3 to keep their slim title chances alive.

Connor Bradley and Max Willcox netted two apiece with the other goal coming from Joe Russell in an entertaining encounter.

Prior to that, the two sides met at the Beacon exactly one year ago. Nothing could separate them on that occasion as the game ended 2-2 with Willcox and Kieran Rowe scoring the Hassocks goals.

Kick off down on the south coast is at the slightly earlier time of 7.30pm.
