Preview: Robins Sunday Action, 28/10/18

Hassocks Ladies return to South East Counties Women’s Division One West action at the Beacon this Sunday with Victoire Development the visitors.

The Robins are in an excellent run of form having won their last six matches in succession to lead the way at the top of the table.

With second place Steyning Town without a game, victory for Martin Lee’s side could open up a six point gap at the top of the table with Hassocks still having a game in hand.

Victoire meanwhile sit at the bottom of the pile with five defeats from five games so far. They’ve managed to score just twice along the way and have conceded 42 times.

Not that it counts for much. The Robins faced second-from-bottom Bexhill United in the first round of the Sussex Women’s Challenge Trophy last week and despite the disparities in league position and points won, Hassocks only just squeaked through to the quarter final via a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Billie Philpott and Kelly Rushworth. United had taken a first half lead.

If you’d like to see if the Robins can rack up another victory, then kick off at the Beacon is at 2pm and entrance is free.

The Under 18s are in action on Sunday morning as they look to bounce back from the disappointment of losing for the first time in over a year after last weeks 5-3 defeat at Haywards Heath Town.

The young Robins make the journey to take on Steyning Town at the Shooting Field. The two sides have met once already this season in the first round of the League Cup three weeks ago.

Hassocks began their defence of the trophy in impressive fashion, dispatching of the Barrowmen 4-2. Tristan Hayes netted a hat-trick with strike partner Yahya Azizi the other scorer in a routine win for Brad Sweetman’s side.

Town have endured a slow start to the season with only three league games under their belts so far. They’ve won one of those and lost two but they remain dangerous opponents having finished runners up in the Central Division last year with a very young squad.

They gave Dave John’s champions two tough games. The first of those took place on the opening day at the Beacon with Hassocks winning 4-0 through goals from George Galbraith-Gibbons, Jake Atherton, Matt Denyer and Ryan Jackson.

The second meeting came at the Shooting Field in November where Atherton and Galbraith-Gibbons again both enjoyed themselves, netting braces in a hard fought 4-2 victory.

Kick off at Steyning is at 11am.
