Preview: Robins Sunday Action, 25/11/18

Hassocks Under 18s continue their defence of the Southern Combination League Under 18 Cup on Sunday when they face Montpelier Villa in the second round stage at the Beacon.

It will be the first ever meeting between the two sides with Villa newcomers to the youth section of the league. They’re enjoying a decent first season as well, currently sitting in fourth spot in the East Division with 13 points from eight games.

Villa’s victories have come against AFC Varndeanians who were the only side to beat Hassocks’ treble winning team in the league last season, Hailsham Town and Peacehaven & Telscombe.

They secured their place in this round of the competition by defeating St Francis Rangers 2-0. The Robins of course lost 3-2 in the league last weekend to Rangers in the Mid Sussex Derby at the Beacon.

Hassocks meanwhile haven’t tasted defeat in the competition since crashing 4-1 at the second round stage in January 2017.

That defeat came against Steyning Town, the club who the Robins defeated 4-2 in the last round through a hat-trick from Tristan Hayes and one from his strike partner, Yahya Azizi.

Kick off is at 11am at the Beacon and entrance is free.

The Ladies are also in action on Sunday as they make the trip east to take on Bexhill United in South East Counties Women’s League Division One.

Hassocks are on a remarkable run of form having plundered 23 goals in their last three games. They’ve still got a 100% record in the league and are quite clearly really enjoying their football at the minute.

The Pirates in contrast sit second bottom of the table having lost eight games out of eight, scoring seven goals and conceding 55.

Only goal difference keeps them from propping up the pile with Hassocks’ 11-0 win over Victoire Development last weekend condemning the Wallington-based side to bottom spot in place of the Pirates.

Despite their lowly league position, United gave Hassocks a real fright in the last meeting between the two. That came in the Sussex Women’s Challenge Trophy five weeks ago with the Robins squeaking through 2-1 with goals from Billie Philpott and Kelly Rushworth.

The game takes place at Bexhill College, Gunter’s Lane, Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex TN39 4BY and kick off is at 2pm.
