Hassocks Ladies can complete their entire South East Counties Women’s Division One West campaign unbeaten if they manage to avoid defeat against Burgess Hill Town at the Beacon this Sunday.
The Robins were crowned as champions three weeks ago via a 6-0 win over Bexhill United and they can round off one of the most memorable campaigns the team has ever had by adding the tag of ‘invincibles’ to their name.
It won’t be an easy task against a Hillians side who could still finish as runners up. Hill have three games left to play and victory in all of those could see them overhaul current second place Mole Valley.
Valley are the only side to have taken a point off Hassocks when they held the Robins 0-0 at the Beacon a month ago. Hill have pushed Hassocks equally close when the sides met in the Sussex Women’s Trophy Final at the start of March with Martin Lee’s side requiring every bit of their talent to win an entertaining final 2-1 at Culver Road.
Jade Chapman had given the Hillians an early lead but Kelly Rushworth equalised before half time. Liz King eventually settled the tie in the 71st minute to give Hassocks their first ever County Cup.
The first league meeting between the two came two weeks ago at the Green Elephants Stadium. That clash wasn’t so close, with goals from Katherine Chappell, Liz King, Kirsten Mair and Kelly Rushworth giving the visitors a convincing 4-0 victory to maintain their record of having dropped just two points so far.
Kick off at the Beacon is at 2pm on Sunday and entrance is free. The Robins are expected to be presented with the Division One West trophy, so please do try and come along to congratulate the ladies on a brilliant league and cup double season.
