Hassocks’ matchday programme has been named the best in the Macron Store Hastings Southern Combination League in the 2018-19 season.
The Robins scored 255 points in the annual independent survey which looks at the offerings of all 53 of the league’s clubs across all three divisions. That tally was enough for Hassocks to top both the Premier Division list and the overall standings.
Hassocks finished 26 points clear of second placed Lancing with the Culver Road club accumulating 229 points. Division One side Southwick were third on 207, Bosham of Division Two came fourth with 206 and Newhaven rounded off the top five with 196.
This is the first time that the Robins have won the award this decade. The club has consistently finished in the top five having been runners up in 2016-17 and 2013-14 and third last season.
Each programmes is assessed against a set of criteria which is reviewed on an annual basis in the light of changing trends and editorship innovation. At least two programmes per club are looked at to try to obtain a representative sample.
Richard Wilson who worked on the survey said, “We applaud all editors for the work they do, often with tight or no budget, to produce a programme for each match. Long may this continue.”
For 2018-19, the Robins’ matchday programme was produced in full colour for the first time and regularly featured 36 pages, all for the cost of just £1. It was also available for supporters to download for free as a PDF after each home game.
The award is recognition for the hard work put in by editors Owen John and Scott McCarthy over the course of the season and the past seven years that they’ve been taking on the role.
