Johnson wins double at End of Season Awards

Hassocks held their End of Season Awards evening on Friday 24th May and it was a good night for Phil Johnson who walked away with two trophies after a stellar season back at the Beacon.

The Robins’ captain was voted both Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Season. His 27 goals in 40 appearances went a long way towards helping Hassocks to their Southern Combination League finish for five years as well as securing fourth spot in the Premier Division’s top goal scorer list.

It also means that Johnson becomes one of the few players to win Players’ Player in back-to-back seasons for the club. He was voted into first place during his previous campaign with Hassocks in the 2014-15 season, after which he went onto play for Burgess Hill Town and Horsham YMCA before returning to the Beacon a year ago.

Harvey Blake’s impressive debut season in senior football was capped off by him being named as Mark Dalgleish’s Manager’s Player of the Season.

Blake played 40 times for the Robins after signing from Mid Sussex League side Sporting Lindfield last summer. He has impressed with his versatility, fitting in seamlessly in both full back positions and out wide.

For the Under 23s, it was James Littlejohn and Ellis Common who picked up the awards as Nigel Pearce’s side finished runners up in the West Division for the second season running.

Littlejohn finished top scorer for the Robins with 23 goals in 23 appearances. The striker also established himself in the first team squad, playing 28 times and contributing four goals to the front side. Right back Common meanwhile racked up 22 games as Under 23s captain.

The Under 18s also ended the season as runners up. Tristan Hayes was voted as Players’ Player for his excellent return of 18 goals from 14 games. Centre back Jack Gardner picked up Brad Sweetman’s Manager’s Player award.

17-year-old goalkeeper Toby Fisher was named as the club’s Young Player of the Year. He played for the Under 18s, Under 23s and made three appearances for the first team, impressing in tough games against Broadbridge Heath, Eastbourne Town and Saltdean United.
