After winning the South East Counties Women’s League Division One title last season, Hassocks Ladies return to the Premier Division for the 2019-20 season – where their campaign will begin with a tough run of games.
The Robins will start their season this Sunday against Lewes FC Foundation, who are effectively the development squad for the Rooks’ Women’s Super League first team.
That tie takes place at the Beacon with a 2pm kick off. A week later and the Robins are on the road away at Phoenix Sports.
Crawley Wasps Reserves will then make the short journey to Mid Sussex on Sunday 22nd September – their first team famously made it all the way to the fourth round of the FA Cup last season where they met eventual WSL Champions Arsenal.
Two away games follow that with trips to Ashford on September 29th and a visit to Parkwood Rangers to kick off October on Sunday 6th.
Old rivals Worthing come to the Beacon on Sunday 13th. There is no shortage of history between the Robins and the Rebels, Hassocks having defeated them to win the League Cup in 2018 before repeating the trick last season with a shock victory in the last eight of the same competition.
Hassocks go the Rookery to take on Lewes a week after that before facing Eastbourne United on October 27th, which will be the first meeting between the two clubs since the old Eastbourne Ladies side joined forces with the Southern Combination League outfit.
There is currently no game scheduled for November 3rd. Two home fixtures follow that against Phoenix on November 10th and Herne Bay on November 17th.
Further fixtures are set to be announced in due course with the division also consisting of Newhaven who the Robins are yet to face in a competitive fixture.
On the signings front, Hassocks have lost the services of last season’s 37 goal top scorer Billie Philpott who has moved up the divisions to try her luck with Saltdean United.
Other than that, the majority of Martin Lee’s double winning squad have signed on for another season and hopes will be high that the Robins can make a good impression on the division.
All home games kick off at 2pm unless otherwise stated and entrance is free. It’s a great way to get a Sunday football fix and Lee and his players would really appreciate any support that you can give them.
