RIP Ken Deaville

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the recent and sudden death of long-time Hassocks supporter, club stalwart and our friend Ken Deaville.

Ken passed away unexpectedly earlier this week and we know he will be sorely missed by everyone at Hassocks after giving many years of service to helping out in various guises behind the scenes.

In recent times, his role has involved entertaining visiting club’s officials at half time in the board room. He undertook the job with typical enthusiasm and was a great representative of our club to every single visitor we’ve had over the past few seasons.

Of course, volunteering in the boardroom meant that he as able to secure one of the best vantage points at the Beacon as he watched matches by leaning out of one of the clubhouse’s open windows.

This was a sight that amused many visitors who would often comment on “the man watching from upstairs”. Sadly, that will be the case in a very different way from now on.

Ken was also instrumental in helping organise our popular Hassocks Six-a-Side tournaments which used to take place in Adastra Park in the village and would attract clubs from all over the country.

We’re sure you will all join us in passing on condolences to Ken’s friends and family at this difficult time, all of whom will always be welcome at the Beacon where he used to love spending so much of his time watching out of his window.

At the current time, we have no details of Ken’s funeral but we will of course publish them in due course. RIP Ken.
