It’s a long trip west for Hassocks Under 23s this Wednesday as they travel to the Bunn Leisure Stadium to face Selsey in their furthest away game of the season.
The Blues are the only side that Hassocks are yet to play so far. They’re enduring something of a frustrating campaign, currently sitting in ninth place in the table with two wins, two draws and seven defeats from their 11 fixtures so far.
All of Selsey’s eight points have come in their last six games as they’ve hauled themselves above Worthing United and off the bottom of the West Division.
The Blues beat East Preston 3-2 in their first success of the campaign and then followed that up with a 5-2 win over Arundel, a side whom Hassocks drew 2-2 with last Thursday night.
Following their win against the Mullets, Selsey have subsequently drawn at home to East Preston and Worthing United. Taking four points from EP is no mean feat and it is has put a serious dent in the title ambitions of everyone at the Lashmar.
Hassocks too are in relatively good form and come into the game unbeaten in three themselves. Prior to last week’s drawn with Arundel, Dave John’s side had hammered Lancing 6-1 at the Beacon after a 5-1 win away at Oakwood.
The stalemate with the Mullets was Hassocks’ first league outing for seven weeks. Selsey meanwhile have played just twice since the start of December, so there could be an element of ring rust on Wednesday night.
Hassocks don’t have particularly good memories of their previous trip to the Bunn Leisure Stadium. It was there in October 2018 that the Robins suffered their first defeat of the 2018-19 campaign as Josh Hall’s 13th minute goal gave the hosts a 1-0 success.
The Robins did gain their revenge four months later. James Littlejohn scored twice in a 4-1 victory at the Beacon with Matt Berridge and Connor Bradley also on target.
All the Hassocks goals came in the first 17 minutes, after which the hosts took their foot off the pedal somewhat. Remi Coates netted the Blues’ consolation seven minutes into the second half.
Kick off down at Selsey is at 7.30pm. If you’re planning on making the journey, then please keep an eye on our social media channels for any news of pitch inspections and possible postponements should the weather be bad over the course of Wednesday.
