After playing just one Southern Combination League Under 23 West Division game in the past nine weeks, Hassocks will be hoping to get their season back on track away at Selsey this Wednesday evening.
The trip to the Bunn Leisure Stadium represents the Robins’ longest journey of the season. Selsey meanwhile are the only opponents that Dave John’s side are yet to face to so far.
Since Hassocks defeated Lancing 6-1 on November 28th, they’ve played just one league fixture. That came a month ago against Arundel at the Beacon where the sides shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
Selsey have been similarly inactive, playing just three league games since the end of November themselves. The Blues have however been in good form lately by and large with all eight of their points coming in their last seven games as they’ve hauled themselves above Worthing United and off the bottom of the West Division.
The Blues beat East Preston 3-2 in their first success of the campaign and then followed that up with a 5-2 win over Arundel.
Following their win against the Mullets, Selsey have subsequently drawn at home to East Preston and Worthing United. Taking four points from EP is no mean feat and it has put a serious dent in the title ambitions of those at the Lashmar.
Selsey’s last outing was a 5-0 defeat at home to Lancing, a rare blip in what has otherwise been an impressive run which marks them out as dangerous opponents.
Not that Hassocks needed any reminder of that after their encounters with the Blues last season. It was away at Selsey in October 2018 that the Robins suffered their first defeat of the 2018-19 campaign as Josh Hall’s 13th minute goal gave the hosts a 1-0 success.
The Robins did gain their revenge four months later. James Littlejohn scored twice in a 4-1 victory at the Beacon with Matt Berridge and Connor Bradley also on target.
All the Hassocks goals came in the first 17 minutes, after which the hosts took their foot off the pedal somewhat. Remi Coates netted the Blues’ consolation seven minutes into the second half.
Kick off at the Bunn Leisure Stadium is at 7.45pm. Given the wet weather that is set to continue over the course of this week, anyone who is considering making the long journey west is advised to keep an eye on our social media channels for any news of a postponement.
