Hassocks’ Southern Combination League Premier Division fixture with Alfold has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Beacon.
It had looked like the Robins might finally get to play their first home game in 32 games until a deluge of rain hit Mid Sussex over the course of last night and this morning.
That turned the pitch from being fine for the Under 23s 2-1 win over Arundel on Thursday night to unplayable in the space of 48 hours.
This is the fifth time now that a Hassocks versus Alfold game has been postponed. The reverse fixture at Alfold Recreation Ground has been lost four times since it was originally due to be played back at the start of November.
The most recent waterlogged pitch up in Surrey came 11 days ago. We’re still waiting on a date for the rearrangement of that match, but with a chockablock fixture list between now and the end of the season, it’s hard to see where anything is going to fit in.
The Robins have only played once since February 11th. That came last Saturday and only went ahead because Lingfield had the foresight to move the match from their Godstone Road home to the 3G surface at Steyning Town’s Shooting Field.
This proved to be a worthwhile decision for the Lingers, who ran out 3-2 winners. Dan Turner had given Hassocks the lead but goals from Sammy Clements, Jamie Bakhit and Kerran Boylan put the hosts firmly in control before James Littlejohn’s hit a stunning 90th minute volley which sadly proved to be too little, too late.
Hassocks are next due in action on Tuesday night away at AFC Uckfield Town with a 7.30pm kick off at the Oaks. The next home game at the Beacon takes place on Tuesday 24th March when Langney Wanderers are the visitors at 7.45pm.
