Johnsy pledges a pound for every Hassocks player doing 5k for the NHS

Dave John has pledged to donate £1 for every Hassocks player past or present who has played for the club in his 29 years at the Beacon that completes the Sussex Football Run 5k for the NHS Challenge.

Johnsy made the promise as the total raised by the campaign rockets towards the £10,000 mark. Many hundreds of players have represented Hassocks in Johnsy’s three decades with the club – if even a quarter of those run 5k for the NHS then his contribution is going to be a significant one.

The campaign was set up by Kevin Keehan and former Robins midfielder Scott Kirkwood. Non league and grassroots players from across the county undertake a 5k run, take a photo of themselves doing so and then make a donation to the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS charitable funds.

Keehan and Kirkwood originally set a target of £3000. That was exceeded within days and the fundraising shows no sign of slowing as footballers from across Sussex take up the challenge.

Our statisticians at the Beacon have so far calculated that 58 current and former Hassocks players have completed 5k for NHS. If you’ve already done so but aren’t on our list, then please let us know so we can add you:
