The Robins got their 2020-21 season off to a flying start as they picked up a first FA Cup win against a side from outside the Southern Combination League since 2010 when eliminating Balham from the competition on penalties.
An entertaining game had finished 2-2 in normal time. Hassocks led twice through James Littlejohn and then Jack Troak with a Ashley Snadden equaliser sandwiched in-between. A controversial penalty was awarded to the hosts with just six minutes remaining which Tom Read converted to take the game to spot kicks
Hassocks were perfect from 12 yards, George Brown, George Galbraith-Gibbons, Littlejohn, Bradley Bant and Troak all converting for five from five which, combined with a superb save from the legs of Dave Carruthers from Balham’s second kick, ensured that the Robins progressed.
