Hassocks’ Southern Combination League Premier Division fixture against Alfold has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Beacon has been hit by constant rain since 10am this morning and after an inspection by the matchday referee, the decision was made to call the game off.
It is a case of history repeating itself for this fixture. Five times in the 2019-20 season, Hassocks’ meetings with Alfold were lost to wet weather and the cold.
Covid-19 bringing the campaign to a premature conclusion meant that the two sides did not get to play each other last year, leaving their first ever meeting to take place on the opening day of the current 2020-21 season.
Alfold won 3-1 on that occasion. Hassocks will now have to wait a little longer to try and gain revenge following the postponement. No new date has been set for the game – please keep your eye on our website and social media profiles for updates as and when we have them, lockdown dependent.
