Hassocks welcomed perennial title challenges Eastbourne Town to Mid Sussex in Brad Sweetman’s first home league game in charge of the Robins.
It looked like a long afternoon would be in store when Arron Hopkinson gave Town the lead inside of 60 seconds. Hassocks though rallied and gave their illustrious visitors a match, holding out until the 57th minute before conceding again to Leon Greig.
With the Robins having suffered a heavy opening day defeat at the hands of Saltdean United, Town might have expected the floodgates to open after that.
Instead, they found themselves hanging on by the end after Josh Short scored his first goal in Hassocks colours with six minutes remaining. The Robins poured forwards in the time remaining but were unable to find an equaliser as their wait for a first win of the campaign goes on.
