The Robins tumbled into the bottom three after Loxwood ran out 1-0 victors at Plaistow Road to leapfrog their visitors in the Premier Division relegation zone.
Hassocks had plenty of opportunities over the course of the 90 minutes but were unable to make one count. That was in stark contrast to the Magpies, who scored with one of their few chances on 86 minutes through substitute Alfie Edmeads.
The Robins were caught trying to play their way out at the back with Edmeads punishing the error for his first Loxwood goal since joining from Saltdean United.
