The Robins suffered a 5-2 defeat against an in-form Town side who came into the clash having won 10 and drawn five of their past 15 matches.
Hassocks were well in the tie during the first half despite going into the break trailing 2-1. Kevin Farragher and Arron Hopkinson had put the hosts 2-0 ahead with Lewis Westlake pulling one back from a free kick 10 minutes before the interval.
A stunning goal out of nothing from Kian Moynes on the hour mark caught the Robins out and Town added two more in quick succession through Louis Veneti and Hopkinson completing his brace.
Still, Hassocks kept plugging away and they got a second consolation when Sam Smith marked his debut with a goal 15 minutes from time.
The Robins only had 10 players on the pitch at the time. Goalkeeper Alex Harris had been sent to the sin bin, leading to Dan Turner taking over the gloves for 10 minutes.
