New year, new fixtures: Where to catch Hassocks in January 2022

Two at home and three away for the Robins in a busy start to 2022

January 2022 got off to the perfect start for Hassocks with a 2-1 win over Lingfield, setting the Robins up nicely for a busy month ahead.

The first team have five further fixtures to complete, starting with the rearranged Premier Division trip to AFC Uckfield Town on Saturday 8th January.

Hassocks had been due to travel to the Oaks on Saturday 4th December but the game fell to a waterlogged pitch. The August clash between the clubs saw the Robins pick up their first point of the season following a 2-2 draw at the Beacon.

Three days later and a place in the last eight of the Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup is up for grabs when Crawley Down Gatwick visit the Beacon on Tuesday 11th January.

It will be the second of four matches involving Hassocks and the Anvils this season. Down had earlier eliminated the Robins from the Sussex Senior Cup via two Oli Leslie goals in October with two Premier Division meetings still to come in February and April.

Hassocks will then be one of the first opponents to visit Little Common for a Premier Division fixture at the Recreation Ground. Common have only just returned to their home following four years of ground sharing with Eastbourne United at the Oval.

The Robins visit the Rec on Saturday 15th January. They will be looking for revenge on Common, who ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at the Beacon in September.

Another trip to the east coast of Sussex follows a week later against Common’s former landlords, United. And it will be another revenge mission at the Oval as United had also been 3-0 victors when visiting Hassocks earlier in the campaign.

Bexhill United provide the final first team opposition of January in the only Premier Division match to take place at the Beacon. The high-flying Pirates visit on Saturday 29th January having been held to a 1-1 October draw by Hassocks at the Polegrove.

The Under 23s have three matches to look forward to in January. Their season resume from a winter break on Thursday 13th January with the visit of North Division leaders Broadbridge Heath to the Beacon.

Horsham YMCA have topped the table prior to the curtailment of the previous two campaigns and they provide another stern home test on Thursday 20th January.

A Mid Sussex Derby rounds off January for the Under 23s away at St Francis Rangers on Thursday 27th. Kick off at Colwell Road is at the slightly earlier time of 7:30pm.

Only two fixtures have been announced so far for the Under 18s. The Young Robins start their month with a League Cup Third Round clash at Rustington on Sunday 9th January. That is followed by a league fixture against Worthing United a week later, kicking off at 11am at the Beacon.

The Veterans have one match in January, taking place on Sunday 9th. East Court provide the opposition in a 2pm kick off at King George’s Field, East Grinstead.

Having played only five league games so far this season, the Ladies will rattle through three matches in January depending on postponements.

A trip to Pagham on Sunday 9th is followed by another away game at Saltdean United on Sunday 23rd. A first Ladies home match since the middle of November rounds off the month on Sunday 30th January, Seaford Town visiting for a 2pm kick.
