Clashes between the Robins and the Anvils are normally high scoring affairs, but not on this occasion. There was a distinct end-of-season affair underneath the Easter Monday sun as the sides played out a 0-0 draw.
This perhaps should not have come as a surprise given the familiarity between the teams. Not only was this their fourth meeting of the campaign, but Down named four ex-Robins in their starting XI and one more on the bench.
It would have been even more had the Anvils’ top scorer Charlie Pitcher not had to settle for watching from the sidelines, which may have been another factor in the lack of goals.
Hassocks goalkeeper Alex Harris did not have a meaningful save to make, and so the Robins could justifiable say they deserved to win the contest.
Visiting number one Alex Bellingham made several important stops, including an astonishing double save in first half stoppage time to keep out a deflected drive from distance and then deny James Westlake from the follow up.
Jack Troak ran clear twice late on, only to be denied by Bellingham both times as the spoils were shared.
