Sam Cash joins from AFC Uckfield Town to become James Westlake’s third signing of the summer
Hassocks have made their third signing of the summer with head coach James Westlake bringing Sam Cash back to the Beacon after two seasons at AFC Uckfield Town.
Cash previously played for the Robins in the 2019-20 campaign. He made three first team appearances under Mark Dalgleish, scoring once on his full debut as Hassocks lost 2-1 away at Southern Combination League Premier Division leaders Lancing in January 2020.
He had joined Hassocks a few weeks earlier after spending a year on the side lines with injury. It did not take him long to make an impression despite such a lengthy time out, Cash forcing himself into the senior setup after five impressive outings for the Under 23s.
Before injury, Cash had played for Eastbourne Borough at Under 18s level. During his time at Priory Lane, he enjoyed a couple of outings with the Sports’ first team in pre-season action.
Cash had a short spell in the academy at Crystal Palace as a teenager. He represented Sussex Schools all the way through the age groups whilst playing junior football at Uckfield Grasshoppers, winning two national cups for the County.
In his two seasons with AFC Uckfield, Cash played 57 times as one of the first names on the team sheet at the Oaks. Uckfield finished 2021-22 in 14th place in the Premier Division, having been fifth when the 2020-21 campaign was curtailed by Covid-19.
Hassocks have already secured the signatures of Pat Harding from Burgess Hill Town and former Lancing midfielder Mike Williamson as Westlake continues to evolve the squad ahead of his first season in charge.
Further announcements are expected in the next few days about some of last season’s players who will be staying at the Beacon for the new campaign.
Welcome back to Hassocks, Sam.
