Photos of the Southern Combination League Premier Division match between Newhaven and Hassocks at the Trafalgar Ground on Saturday 29th October 2022.
Hassocks went down to a 2-0 defeat against the Dockers despite having a numerical advantage for over 75 minutes after Bailie Rogers was given a straight red card midway through the first half.
The score was 0-0 at the time of Rogers’ early departure for wiping out tall Hassocks striker Jamie Wilkes. The decision split supporters at the Trafalgar Ground but and not in the way you would expect.
Some home fans felt Mr Pike was right to send Rogers off whilst a couple of Hassocks players were surprised the punishment was so harsh.
Not that playing with only 10 impacted Newhaven too much. Alfie Rogers put the Dockers ahead on 33 minutes, showing great determination to beat three Robins before finishing past Alex Harris. Desperation to make up for his brother’s red card, perhaps?
Lee Robinson doubled the lead on 67 minutes, scoring his normal goal against Hassocks. It was comfortable for Newhaven after that with the Robins failing to muster an opportunity of note.
