The biggest crowd the Beacon had seen for a league game in over a decade were treated to a five-goal thriller on Boxing Day between the Robins and the Barrowmen.
Hassocks led 2-0 going into half time through Liam Benson’s opener with only two minutes on the clock and a Harvey Blake effort just before the break.
The second half however was a different story as a succession of Steyning substitutes entered proceedings to turn the game on its head.
Callum Chalmers had been on only seven minutes following his half time introduction when he pulled one back. Jack Langford then equalised on the hour mark having himself replaced the injured Rob Clarke two minutes before the break.
Hassocks saw young goalkeeper Joe Southam leave the field following lengthy treatment after falling awkwardly attempting to gather a high ball into the box.
Defender Will Broomfield took over in goal as the Robins tried to hold onto what would now in the circumstances have been a good point.
They could not quite get there though, a Jack Barnes corner taking a wicked deflection off Joe Bull to beat Broomfield with 94 minutes on the clock as Steyning snuck off with a 3-2 victory.
