Tuesday night test taking on the Tye

Fourth hosts third under the Beacon floodlights

Hot on the heels of their superb 3-0 win at Eastbourne Town on Saturday, Hassocks face another fixture against fellow Southern Combination Premier Division top six opponents.

Peacehaven & Telscombe are the visitors to Mid Sussex in Tuesday night action in a game which had been due to take place 17 days ago until heavy rain put paid to it.

The Robins’ weekend victory at the Saffrons lifted them into fourth spot in the table. Peacehaven meanwhile climbed to third after beating Loxwood 2-0, setting up an intriguing evening of football under the Beacon floodlights.

Peacehaven & Telscombe this season

Peacehaven garnered a reputation as cup specialists in 2022-23. They embarked on a memorable run to the last eight of the FA Vase, drawing a crowd of 1,253 to the Window Workshop Sports Park for a cruel penalty shootout exit to Corsham Town.

They then reached the semi finals of the Peter Bentley League Cup and lifted the Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup, beating Southern Combination League champions Broadbridge Heath 1-0 in the final through a late Max Hollobone goal.

The challenge for the Tye coming into the new campaign was to take their knockout form and apply it consistently over a Premier Division season.

So far, so good in that regard. Peacehaven have won 10, drawn two and lost only three of their 15 matches so far to be nine points behind leaders Crowborough Athletic, albeit with a game in hand.

Hassocks v Peacehaven & Telscombe head-to-head

It is not a fixture which has brought Hassocks much joy through the years. Peacehaven have won 22 of the 41 meetings with 10 draws and just eight victories for the Robins.

Any Hassocks fans looking for crumbs of comfort can hold onto the fact this game takes place at the Beacon.

Since 2000, the Robins have won just once in 13 league matches at the Window Workshop Sports Park – a stunning 3-0 victory in the 2011-12 season delivered by goals from Phil Gault, Nathan Miles and current Hassocks head coach James Westlake.

Last time Hassocks played Peacehaven & Telscombe

The last meeting between the sides came at the Sports Park back in May in the quarter finals of the RUR Cup.

The Tye ran out 2-1 winners on their way to lifting the trophy. Cam Wilstshire gave the hosts a ninth minute lead cancelled out just five minutes later by Liam Benson. Billy Oliver then struck a 90th minute winner for Peacehaven.
