One in, one out as Robins gear up for final months of season

Midfielder Khalloqui joins Hassocks from Broadbridge Heath

Hassocks are gearing up for the final few months of the Southern Combination League Premier Division season with some activity on the transfer front.

Head coach James Westlake has completed one incoming deal whilst one first team player has left the Robins and another from the Under 23s departs with the aim of picking up Division One experience.

Arriving at the Beacon is young midfielder Faris Khalloqui, who joins Hassocks from Isthmian League South East outfit Broadbridge Heath.

A Burgess Hill Town youth team product, Khalloqui broke into senior football during the 2021-22 season with Combined Counties Premier side Guildford City.

He played 10 times for Guildford, forever endearing himself to Sweeney fans by his first goal for the club being the winner in a 3-2 Easter Monday local derby victory away at Sheerwater.

Khalloqui impressed enough during his time with Guildford to be offered the chance to step up to the Isthmian League for the 2022-23 campaign, joining Lancing.

He was a teammate of Hassocks winger Sean Stephenson at Culver Road, playing eight times for the Lancers first team in league and cup.

A summer move next took him to recently crowned Southern Combination champions Broadbridge Heath ahead of their first ever step four campaign.

Khalloqui made four starts and eight substitute appearances for the Bears with his most recent outing coming on December 30th in a 1-0 defeat at Sheppey United.

Capable of playing as either a central midfielder or a number 10, Khalloqui will boost Westlake’s creative options as Hassocks look to stay in the race for a playoff place.

Whilst Khalloqui arrives, Kyle Woolven has left the Beacon to join Saltdean United in search of more regular first team football.

The former Newhaven and Lancing forward signed for the Robins in the summer from AFC Varndeanians. He scored five goals from 21 appearances out wide and as a centre forward.

With his move to Hill Park, Woolven will again link up with manager Kieran Ridley. The Tigers boss and Woolven worked together previously when Ridley was in charge of Newhaven Under 23s.

Hassocks have also seen an Under 23s player who was on the cusp of the first team squad leave the club on what is expected to be a temporary basis.

Micael Fatela has signed for Billingshurst with the aim of getting senior experience in Southern Combination Division One before returning to the Beacon and pushing for a first team spot next season.

Fatela began training with the Robins in the early weeks of the season but had to wait an absolute age to play competitive football thanks to the long and drawn out process of receiving international clearance.

In five Under 23s appearances, Fatlea contributed three goals. His form saw him called into the senior squad, resulting in three run outs from the bench.
