Young midfielder commits after breakthrough season last time out
Young midfielder Josh Mundy is staying with Hassocks for 2024-25 after enjoying a breakthrough first season in senior football at the Beacon.
Mundy joined the Robins last summer on loan from Three Bridges to gain first team experience. He soon established himself as a midfield regular, going onto make 37 appearances and contributing two goals.
The first of those came in one of the most impressive wins of the campaign when Hassocks ran out 3-0 victors at eventual playoff winners Eastbourne Town in November.
Mundy grabbed the second at the Saffrons with a poacher’s finish after home goalkeeper Josh Barnett parried a shot from Super Pat Harding.
A month later and Mundy scored a 95th minute equaliser to help the Robins come from 2-0 down with 88 on the clock and draw at Bexhill United.
Tall striker Jamie Wilkes pulled one back against the Pirates, setting the stage for Mundy to notch with virtually the last kick of the game via a heavy deflection wrongfooting Bexhill goalkeeper Alex Hobden.
It was the culmination of a purple patch in form through the autumn and winter for Mundy. October saw him pick up his first Hassocks Player of the Month award ahead of the rangy Wilkes and Mike Williamson.
Whilst at Three Bridges, Mundy was part of the Under 18s side who went all the way to the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup in the 2021-22 campaign.
Bridges saw off Steyning Town, East Preston, Dorking Wanderers and Tring Athletic through the qualifying rounds, leading to a memorable meeting with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
In the Isthmian Under 18 South Division, Bridges finished runners up to champions Worthing by a single point. Mundy played 19 times in all competitions.
