Robins and Rams put unbeaten records on the line

Premier Division leaders Petersfield Town make their first visit to the Hassocks Hotel Beacon Ground

Two Southern Combination Premier Division unbeaten records will be on the line at the Hassocks Hotel Beacon Ground when the Robins host Petersfield Town.

The Rams will arrive in BN6 as Premier Division leaders, having taken 10 points from a possible 12. Hassocks meanwhile have three wins and two draws to their name, sitting fourth in the table.

Saturday afternoon’s action kicks off the Robins’ first weekend double header of the campaign. On Sunday, the Ladies start their season with a home game in the FA Cup against Abbey Rangers. Kick off is at 2pm and admission is free for that one.

Petersfield Town last season

Petersfield were the surprise club on the end of a sideways summer move from the FA to balance out the Southern Combination Premier Division after no Sussex sides found themselves in the Isthmian League relegation battle and both Steyning Town and Eastbourne Town went up.

Most observers assumed it would be normal candidates Horley Town or Redhill shifted into the Southern Combination from the Combined Counties but instead, the Rams were forced over from the Wessex Premier.

Pagham fans can tell you following their one-season stay in the Hampshire & Dorset based league that it is much tougher.

Petersfield finished 13th last season and were recent League Cup finalists, meaning they always stood a chance of making a good impression in the Southern Combination.

After five games, they sit top of the table with four wins and one draw.12 goals have been scored and only one conceded. Early days it might be, but the Rams look likely to be Haywards Heath Town’s closest challengers for the title.

Hassocks v Petersfield Town head-to-head

With Petersfield never having played in the Southern Combination League before, this will be the first ever competitive game between Robins and Rams.
