Hassocks host Infinity hoping for Peter Bentley Cup run

Robins meet nomadic newcomers to the Southern Combination League for first time

A first ever meeting with Southern Combination League newcomers Infinity awaits Hassocks in the second round of the Peter Bentley League Cup on Tuesday night.

Infinity were formed in 2006 and have lived a nomadic existence ever since. They started out playing home matches in Winchester before moving to Southampton.

In 2021, they reached Division One of the Wessex League. Unfortunately, early termination of their ground share agreement with Hythe & Dibden means they were forced to withdraw.

Undeterred, Infinity moved 35 miles east to take up residency at Sidlesham Recreation Ground and re-joined the Hampshire League for 2022-23.

A third placed finish in the Hampshire Premier last season was enough to see them promoted to step six. Rather than that resulting in a return to the Wessex League, their new Sussex-based location meant joining Southern Combination Division One.

Infinity this season

Infinity arrived in the Southern Combination as something of an unknown quality but have quickly demonstrated they can hold their own in Division One.

An opening day win against perennial top three finishers Dorking Wanderers B set the tone and they currently sit ninth in the table with three victories and three defeats.

Infinity set up their trip to the Hassocks Hotel Beacon Ground by thrashing Oakwood 6-1 at Tinsley Lane in the previous round of the Peter Bentley Cup, whilst they also gave Premier Division outfit Midhurst & Easebourne a tough time in the RUR Cup.

Hassocks v Infinity head-to-head

The Robins are on a run of playing new clubs at the moment with Infinity the second opponents in the space of four days whom Hassocks have never previously faced.

James Westlake and his players will be hoping for a similar outcome to Saturday’s superb 3-1 victory over Petersfield Town.

Matchday information

Kick off is at 7:45pm and admission is £8 adults, £4 concessions and free for under 16s. Both card and cash payments are accepted on the turnstiles and in the Clubhouse.
