Report: Horsham Sparrows Women 0-4 Hassocks Ladies

Robins rack up another big win to move second in standings

Another big win for Hassocks Ladies made it 20 goals scored and none conceded in their past three matches as the Robins moved second in the Sussex County Women’s League Premier Division.

The Robins defeated Horsham Sparrows 4-0 at Slinfold Football Club, completing a league double having beaten the same opponents 5-2 at the Hassocks Hotel Beacon Ground in their opening league game of the campaign.

It came hot on the heels of last week’s 5-0 home win over East Preston which was preceded by an 11-0 success at home to East Preston – Hassocks’ biggest victory since winning the South East Counties Division One title in the 2018-19 campaign.

Mark Dalgleish made just two changes from the side who comfortably saw off EP last weekend as the Robins continue to benefit from the sort of consistency in selection which evaded them to make last season such a challenging one.

Elsa Cutlack returned to the starting XI and there was a debut for Alexandra Pedersen. Mandy Morgan dropped down to the bench whilst Jess Craig was unavailable.

Sparrows sunk to the bottom of the table a week earlier after losing 2-1 away at Eastbourne Town, leaving them still waiting for their first point of the season.

They put up a decent fight here though and defended resolutely. Home player of the match Alice Partridge was particularly impressive at the back, doing a good job to frustrate the Robins’ top scorer Katherine Chappell.

Whilst Chappell was unable to add to her six goals in six games so far, there was the rare sight of defender Claire Stevens getting on the scoresheet – much to the delight of her teammates.

Milly Dalgleish continued her fine first full season since stepping up from the Under 16s at the back end of last term with another goal.

The other two Robins strikes arrived from the bench, Morgan coming on as a substitute to bag a brace and wrap up a solid victory.

Hassocks are on the road again next week to Worthing Town, a game guaranteed to go ahead even if the predicted rain arrives as it will take place on the 3G pitch at Palantine Park.

After that comes a tough looking encounter with league leaders Eastbourne Borough, who have scored 74 goals in seven games without conceding.

Hassocks: Elsa Cultlack, Tallie Bright, Claire Stevens, Katie Read, Mia Pordage, Alexandra Pedersen, Sofia Harding, Milly Dalgleish, Jodie Johanson, Kirtsen Mair, Katherine Chappell.

Subs: Lola Moon, Mandy Morgan, Lilly Lopez, Poppy Snelling (used).
