Back to Petersfield 10 days later for Peter Bentley Cup action

Place in the semi finals up for grabs as Robins and Rams meet again

For the second time in 10 days, Hassocks make the long journey west to the Southdowns Builders Stadium to take on Petersfield Town.

The Robins ran out 1-0 victors across the Hampshire border when the sides met in the Premier Division a little over a week ago. This time, there is a Peter Bentley League Cup semi final place up for grabs.

Hassocks have only gone beyond the quarter finals of the Peter Bentley Cup once before, way back in the 1996-97 season.

Petersfield meanwhile are taking part for the first time following their summer move from the Wessex League to the Southern Combination.

Meaning that no matter the winner at the Southdowns Builders Stadium, a name rarely seen in the last four of the competition will be facing the either Reigate Priory or Haywards Heath Town for a spot in the final.

Petersfield Town this season

With the Wessex League generally being a better standard than the Southern Combination, Petersfield were tipped to do well after being forced over by the FA.

That has proven to be the case. The Rams sit fifth in the table, firmly in the promotion picture and full of confidence after a stunning 5-1 win at Crawley Down Gatwick on Saturday.

In terms of the Peter Bentley Cup, Petersfield have come through a tough run to reach the quarter finals. The Rams eliminated Crawley Down in round two before thrashing Roffey 5-0 in the third round.

Petersfield Town v Hassocks head-to-head

This is the first season where the Robins and Petersfield have faced off in competitive action. Both league games were real battles which ended up going the way of Hassocks.

Goals from Morgan Vale, tall striker Jamie Wilkes and Joe Overy secured a 3-1 win for the Robins at the Hassocks Hotel Beacon Ground back in August.

Asad Semi pulled one back on 65 minutes with a stunning strike from the edge of the box but Hassocks held on for an impressive three points.

Vale was again on target in that return fixture 10 days ago, scoring the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after Harry Furnell was wiped out in the box.

How to get to the Southdowns Builders Stadium

Head to the A272 for a long old drive through Sussex and into Hampshire. After passing through Billingshurst, Petworth, Midhurst and Sheet, leave the A272 at the roundabout just outside Petersfield to join the B2070.

Once entering the one-way system, take the first left onto Love Lane. The Southdowns Builders Stadium is then at the end of the road. Kick off is at 7:45pm.
