Goals in the two games Hassocks played fire Fair to second accolade of the season
Hassocks only played twice in January and with goals in both those games from the right flank, it is Big Alex Fair who has been named Robins Player of the Month.
Fair was at his mesmerising best as Hassocks started 2025 with an impressive 3-1 win away against Wick under the lights at Crabtree Park.
He opened the scoring after just seven minutes with a clinical first time finish, placing a Jack Troak pull back cleverly dummied by Ruari Farrell into the bottom corner.
Fair had already hit the bar before netting. A trademark Cruyff Turn saw him twist into space on the right-hand side of the area and unleash a powerful effort which left the woodwork rattling.
After giving the Robins their lead, Fair almost scored a magnificent second when gliding past three Wick players, only to be denied by a good save from Dragons goalkeeper Keelan Belcher.
Needless to say, Fair was involved when Hassocks did double the advantage. It was his cross looped into the box from the left flank which presented Farrell with the chance to produce a clever stooping header.
11 days later and the Robins sailed away from Bexhill United with a 3-0 win over the Pirates. Again, Fair opened the scoring – although he had to wait a lot longer to do so than against Wick.
58 minutes had elapsed when Fair struck somewhat against the run of play. Not only did the goal give Hassocks the lead, but it also curtailed a spell of heavy pressure from Bexhill.
Troak provided the assist once more from the left flank in what was almost a carbon copy of that goal at Crabtree Park.
Second place in January Player of the Month went to the scorer of the third Robins goal at Wick; one of the best seen from a Hassocks player in a long time.
Dan Turner won possession inside his own half, dropped a shoulder and showed a surprising turn of pace to go around two Dragons players.
A Robins teammate shouted “RELAX” as Turner reached 35 yards from the Dragons goal. Turner responded by unleashing a rocket into the top corner.
As well as scoring screamers, the centre back’s performances at the other end of the pitch were a big reason why Hassocks conceded only once in January.
Likewise, Josh Mundy. The midfielder did an excellent job shielding the back four and keeping possession ticking over on two difficult surfaces at Crabtree Park and the Polegrove – enough to see Mundy take third place after Fair and Turner.
