There were victories for Hassocks Under 18s and Ladies sides on Sunday as both teams extended their 100% starts to the league season.
The ladies ran out 1-0 winners in a tough game away at Oakwood. Player of the match Billie Philpott got the only goal of the game which was enough to ensure that the Robins sit top of the table with six points out a possible six.
With the under 18s not scheduled to have another game now until September 30th, their 5-1 success at Broadbridge Heath means that they’ve now won every league game they’ve played for a calendar year.
Hassocks last dropped points on AFC September 27th when drawing 4-4 with AFC Varndeanians. The Robins last defeat came on September 24th when they went down 1-0 to Southwick at Old Barn Way.
Since that draw with V’s, they’ve won 18 games in succession. This most recent success was a routine one in the end although the Robins did make a slow start to proceedings with a slightly disjointed first half performance.
Despite that, they went into the break 1-0 ahead through Yahya Azizi’s fifth goal of the season. Azizi then doubled the advantage five minutes after the restart and Hassocks were rampant after that.
Kieran Dimelow, the only member of last seasons treble winning squad to still be eligible for under 18 football, added the third on 55 minutes in his first appearance of the campaign from the substitutes bench.
Sam Herd was given his full debut and he grasped the opportunity with both hands, rounding off the scoring in the 85th minute. There was an own goal thrown in there from the Bears as well for good measure.
Brad Sweetman’s side remain in second placed in Under 18 Central Division, behind local rivals Haywards Heath Town on goal difference. The Robins’ first meeting with the Blues is just over a month away and is already shaping up to be a must-see game.
Hassocks now take a break from league action. As already mentioned, they are without a fixture next week and the following Sunday they host Steyning Town in the League Cup at the Beacon.
Steyning are also the next opponents for the Ladies. Martin Lee will take his side to the Shooting Field next Sunday to face opponents that they defeated 8-1 in the opening game of the campaign just one week ago.
