Robins head to the Polegrove to kick off final month of campaign
The final month of the Southern Combination League season kicks off with Hassocks making the long trip to Bexhill United to face another side fighting for a top six spot.
Bexhill leapfrogged the Robins in the table in midweek thanks to a combination of their 6-0 home win over Loxwood and Hassocks slipping to a 2-1 defeat at home to Crowborough.
The Pirates are two points ahead in the standings and have a formidable home record. Hassocks though have not lost on the road since January, meaning something will have to give at the Polegrove.
Bexhill United this season
Bexhill enjoyed a magnificent first campaign in the Premier Division for the best part of 30 years last time out.
They went the entire season unbeaten at the Polegrove playing in front of some huge attendances and finished in fourth spot, the highest ever finish in their history.
A slow start to 2022-23 led to suggestions that second-season syndrome might be creeping in but they have recovered well from that and look on course for a top 10 placing at the very least.
The Pirates are ninth in the table with 19 wins, two draws and 12 defeats. With Hassocks having only drawn on six occasions themselves, this is a game you probably do not want on your coupon.
Hassocks v Bexhill United head-to-head
This will be the 13th meeting between the Robins and Bexhill. The first four came in Division One when Bexhill were known as Bexhill Town.
The sides then met in four cup matches before the Pirates won promotion to the Premier Division with three more meetings following since, all played in horrific wind and rain.
Bexhill lead the head-to-head with five wins to Hassocks’ four, leaving three draws from the 12 matches so far.
Last time Hassocks played Bexhill United
The weather was utterly grim when the Pirates sailed into the Beacon back in November – not that Liam Benson was particularly bothered.
Benson scored two second half goals to secure an impressive 2-0 win for the Robins. The first came on 62 minutes and the second to wrap up the three points arrived with the game about to enter injury time.
