Bonus Beacon game for the Robins against the Lingers
The Southern Combination League Premier Division clash between Lingfield and Hassocks which had been scheduled to take place at Godstone Road will now take place at the Beacon.
Kick off will be at 3pm on Saturday 15th April, giving the Robins a bonus home game on their pitch on the penultimate weekend of the campaign.
It will be Lingfield’s third visit of the campaign to the Beacon. A quite incredible own goal from 25 yards scored by Lingers defender Conor Wilford went viral when the sides met at the Beacon in the FA Cup in August.
Wilford’s unfortunate moment proved to be the difference between the sides as the Robins progressed 1-0. Hassocks went onto push Isthmian League South Central outfit Uxbridge close in the next round before bowing out in 3-1 defeat.
Three months later and the Lingers returned to Mid Sussex, taking a point back to Surrey with them following a 2-2 draw in the league.
Dennis Asante put the visitors 1-0 up with just three minutes on the clock. A Hassocks free kick went awry, the Lingers galloped straight up the other end and Asante applied the finish past teenage debutant Joe Southam in the Robins goal.
Liam Benson produced a classic poacher’s finish for the equaliser on 22 minutes, reacting quickest to smash home a rebound after a Alex Bygraves header from a raging Joe Bull delivery was somehow blocked on the line.
Hassocks took the lead five minutes before half time with a beautifully crafted effort between wingers JJ Minty and Jack Troak.
Troak’s first initial effort was cleared off the line but he had continued his run and made no mistake with the second bite of the cherry, burying a left footed drive low and hard into the bottom corner.
Lingfield secured their share of the spoils with 12 minutes remaining via a stunning Gus Ward free kick.
