Premier Division clash switched from Godstone Road
The Beacon hosts a bonus game this Saturday as the Southern Combination League Premier Division clash between Hassocks and Lingfield has been switched to the home of the Robins.
Lingfield have reversed the previous two fixtures scheduled for Godstone Road, losing at Broadbridge Heath and Steyning Town as a result.
Hassocks will be hoping for a similar outcome as they look to break a run of four consecutive defeats and no win in six, which could yet see the Robins slip out of top 10 by the season’s end.
Lingfield this season
Lingfield have seen some big hitting players leave over the past year or so, such as Sam Lemon and Sam Clements.
Some might have expected them to struggle with those losses, but they have enjoyed a solid enough campaign spent almost entirely in mid table.
This is made more impressive when you consider they have had to surrender home advantage on several occasions, as is this case again this Saturday.
The Lingers are currently 13th in the standings with 10 wins, four draws and 22 defeats to their name. They cannot climb any higher but could yet drop to 14th depending on how Midhurst & Easebourne do in their five – yes, five – remaining matches.
Hassocks v Lingfield head-to-head
There have been 32 matches between Hassocks and Lingfield in the past with the Robins leading the head-to-head with 14 wins to the Lingers’ 10, leaving eight draws.
Lingfield have been the dominant side in recent years. Hassocks have won just three of the past nine meetings – a 3-2 Peter Bentley League Cup victory at the Beacon in the 2018-19 season,
last January’s away Premier Division game held at Whyteleafe and the FA Cup extra preliminary round clash at the Beacon in August.
Last time Hassocks played Lingfield
A four goal thriller at the Beacon back in November saw the spoils shared in a 2-2 draw. Dennis Asante put the Lingers 1-0 ahead with just three minutes played before Liam Benson and Jack Troak gave Hassocks a 2-1 advantage going into half time.
It remained that way until 12 minutes from time, when Gus Ward struck a brilliant free kick past the Robins’ debutant goalkeeper Joe Southam.
Matchday information
Kick off is at 3:00pm and Lingfield will be running the turnstiles as their home game, setting admission prices and providing the matchday programme.
Hassocks will be operating both the T Bar and the Robins Bar as normal, with hot food and drink and a wide selection of craft beer from local breweries available.
The Clubhouse accepts cash or card payments and dogs are welcome at the Beacon.
