Preview: Robins Sunday Action, 07/10/18

Both Hassocks Under 18s and Hassocks Ladies are on the road this Sunday as they look to maintain their 100% starts to the season.

The young Robins make the trip to Rottingdean Village looking to make it five wins out of five. Their hosts in contrast have lost all of their game so far, going down twice in the league and being eliminated from the League Cup by Selsey at the first round stage.

Rottingdean have found goals relatively easy to come by, scoring six times in their defeats to Southwick and Broadbridge Heath.

It’s keeping out where their problems currently lie, with 15 having flown in at the other end. Southwick accounted for 10 of those in Rottingdean’s last league game three weeks ago.

Despite their lowly position, Hassocks won’t be taking anything for granted as they lookto extend their winning run to 19 games and past the 375 days mark.

The only side currently below Rottingdean in the table currently is Lancing and Hassocks only squeaked past them by one goal in the second game of the campaign so a tricky morning could be lying in wait for Brad Sweetman’s side.

The Robins scored eight goals in both their meetings with Rottingdean last season, winning 8-0 at the Beacon and 8-3 at Rottingean Sports Centre. Jake Lindsey in particular enjoyed those encounters, netting four goals including a hat-trick in the away game.

Rottingdean lasted victory in the fixture in the penultimate game of the 2015-16 season, losing 2-1 away from home. That completed a league double as they also hammered Hassocks 4-0 at the Beacon on the opening day.

Kick off this Sunday is at 11am at Rottingdean Sports Centre and entrance is free.

The ladies meanwhile are on the road to Milford & Witley as they too look to make it five wins from five to maintain top spot in the South East Counties Women’s League Division One West.

Milford have won one, drawn one and lost one of their three games so far. They put in an impressive showing to hammer Bexhill United 9-0 in the first game of the season with their draw coming in a 1-1 stalemate with Mole Valley who were second until the Robins defeated them 4-2 last weekend.

Milford finished runners up in the division last season, just two points behind champions Lewes. They lost just three times in the whole campaign and so will provide formidable opponents for Martin Lee’s side.

The two sides met in the quarter finals of the League Cup last season. Billie Philpott scored the only goal as Hassocks won 1-0 on their way to lifting the trophy with their 3-1 win over Worthing in the final.

The game takes place at Burton Pavilion, Milford Heath Road, Milford, Surrey GU8 5BP. Kick off is at 2pm.
