Brewer comes into senior squad after goal laden Under 18s season

Talented striker already has one senior goal to his name from three appearances

Hassocks Under 18s top scorer Alex Brewer has been rewarded for his superb 2022-23 season with a place in James Westlake’s first team squad for the new campaign.

The striker has already made an impression at senior level, scoring his first goal in the 4-1 win over Eastbourne Town which rounded off the Robins’ Southern Combination Premier Division season back in April.

Brewer headed the final goal of the rout beyond experienced Town goalkeeper Chris Winterton in injury time following his introduction as a substitute 15 minutes earlier.

It was only Brewer’s second senior appearance. His debut came 12 days earlier when he started in the Easter Monday defeat at Steyning Town.

He was given a third outing again from the bench in the Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup exit to Peacehaven & Telscombe in Hassocks’ final match of the season.

Brewer’s opportunities came as a result of his 21 goals from 20 matches for the Young Robins as they finished third in the Central Division standings.

Hassocks also advanced to the semi finals of the both the League Cup and the Sussex Bluefin Dennis Probee Youth Cup.

In the second of those competitions, they were the last Southern Combination side left standing against three Isthmian League opponents, exiting against eventual winners Whitehawk.

Amongst Brewer’s haul was a hat-trick in a 7-0 victory over Mile Oak. He also claimed a double against Oak, to go with braces past Burgess Hill Town on two occasions, Steyning and Central Division champions St Francis Rangers.

To complete a memorable first campaign at the Beacon, Brewer was named Under 18s Manager’s Player of the Season.
