Former Loxwood goalkeeper re-signs for Hassocks for the new season
Goalkeeper Fraser Trigwell has signed for Hassocks ahead of the new Southern Combination season having helped the Under 23s to the North Division title in 2022-23.
The Robins pulled off quite the coup when convincing the experienced shot stopper to leave Loxwood in February, where he had been Magpies number one for several seasons.
Trigwell played four times for the Under 23s towards the business end of the season. Hassocks won three of those games with Trigwell keeping a clean sheet in his first appearance as the Robins took Mid Sussex bragging rights by hammering local rivals St Francis Rangers 8-0.
He went onto make his first team debut in the 2-2 draw against Newhaven at the Beacon when James Shaw was unavailable.
With Shaw having departed to Burgess Hill Town, Trigwell is a very obvious and high-quality replacement, given his track record in senior football.
Trigwell played for Worthing United, Broadbridge Heath and Steyning Town prior to joining Loxwood in the summer of 2020.
He was one of the first signings made by Spencer Slaughter following the former Hassocks favourite’s appointment as manager at the Nest.
Trigwell played 24 times in his first campaign with the Magpies, enjoying a starring role as Loxwood reached the final of the 2021 Supplementary Shield competition.
In the semi final against Newhaven at Woodside Road which went to penalties following a 2-2 draw, Trigwell saved three Dockers spot kicks to send Loxwood through.
The final against Lancing finished level and even though Trigwell kept out another penalty, it was the Isthmian League-bound Lancers who lifted the trophy after winning 5-4 from 12 yards.
Trigwell was a virtual ever-present in 2021-22 for the Magpies, playing 39 times in all competitions. He made 23 appearances for Loxwood during the 2022-23 campaign before being lured to the Beacon, where he will now remain for the new season.
