Hassocks Under 18s are back in action on Sunday after a fortnight off while the Ladies return to the bread and butter of the South East Counties Women’s Division One East for the first time in over a month.
Martin Lee’s Ladies haven’t played a league game since October 7th when they defeated Milford & Witley away from home to make it five wins from five to kick off their season.
They’ve had two blank weekends and played two cup games, making solid progress in the Sussex Women’s Challenge Trophy with a 2-1 win over Bexhill United and defeating Cray Valley 5-0 last weekend to get their defence of the League Cup off to the perfect start.
Their visitors to the Beacon this Sunday are Wandgas who currently sit in fourth place in the table with four wins and two loses from their six games so far.
The South West London based side have an impressive result in their last league game two weeks ago, becoming the first team this season to defeat the Robins’ Mid Sussex rivals Burgess Hill Town when winning 2-1 at their Grafton Road home.
Wandgas’ two defeats have come against current second placed side Steyning Town whom they fell to 4-0 at home and Oakwood whom they also lost at home to, 2-0. They’ve got a 100% record on the road with two wins from two.
Hassocks will come into the game full of confidence having won their past seven games in a row in all competitions. They are two points clear of Steyning at the top of the table having played two games less and on Wednesday night, striker Billie Philpott made her debut for Sussex in their 7-0 hammering of reigning Southern Counties champions Kent.
Entrance to the Beacon for Sunday’s game is free with kick off scheduled for 2pm.
The Under 18s are also in action, making the trip to Old Barn Way to face Southwick after having two weeks off themselves.
The Robins had been scheduled to play Bosham last Sunday in the Sussex Bluefin Dennis Probee Youth Cup but their opponents withdrawal from the league gave Brad Sweetman’s side a bye into the next round.
Hassocks last took to the field against Steyning Town, winning 2-1 to bounce back in impressive fashion from their first defeat in over a year a week previous to that against Southern Combination Under 18 Central Division leaders Haywards Heath Town.
Southwick have endured a mixed start to the campaign with three wins and two defeats to their name. They pushed Heath close in one of those defeats, only losing 4-3 to the Blues on the opening day of the season and have racked up big wins over Rottingdean Village and Broadbridge Heath.
Hassocks will be all too wary of the threat that the Wickers pose. They were the only side to defeat them in the league last season when winning 1-0 at Old Barn Way and they gave the treble winning Robins another tough encounter in the return match at the Beacon before Hassocks’ quality told and goals from George Galbraith-Gibbons and Jake Lindsey secured a 2-0 win.
Kick off at Old Barn Way on Sunday is at 11am.
