Robins fly to Crowborough on Southern Combination groundhop weekend

Saturday evening football under the lights at Crowborough Community Stadium

Hassocks will play a Saturday night game for the first time ever when visiting Crowborough Athletic as part of the Southern Combination League groundhop weekend.

Seven matches across all three divisions have been moved to allow groundhoppers to attend. The action starts on Friday night between Roffey and AFC Varndeanians.

Saturday kicks off with an 11am start for Oakwood against Alfold. Jarvis Brook host Southwater at 2:30pm, followed by Crows taking on Robins at the Crowborough Community Stadium.

Kick off is at 5:45pm between the sides sitting first and sixth in the table. Crowborough completed a Premier Division double over Hassocks last season, winning 5-2 at home and 2-1 when visiting BN6.

Groundhoppers then get two more games on the Sunday. Pagham play Loxwood at 11am and East Preston versus Godalming Town is at 2:30pm.

Crowborough Athletic this season

Crowborough made something of a slow start after seeing some key players from the team who finished third in the Premier Division last season depart for Isthmian League football with Steyning Town.

But their form has picked up since the start of September, so much so the Crows sit second behind Hassocks in the current form table with five consecutive Premier Division wins.

The Robins are on a club-record run of eight victories in a row. So one (or both) of these side’s winning streaks will have to give.

Crowborough Athletic v Hassocks head-to-head

Hassocks and Crowborough were regular opponents before the Crows found themselves spending nearly a decade in the Southern Counties East League between 2014 and 2022.

29 previous matches have resulted in 14 Robins wins, 12 Crowborough victories and only three draws.

Hassocks’ record is helped by an unbeaten six game spell which included five successive wins during Mickey Jewell’s spell in charge between 2010 to 2014.

Last time Hassocks played Crowborough Athletic

Only two clubs completed a double over Hassocks last season, Haywards Heath Town being the other alongside Crowborough.

The Crows needed a 92nd minute winner to secure theirs at the Hassocks Hotel Beacon Ground back in February.

Jacob Feasey struck late in the day. Harvey Killick was the other Crowborough scorer after Jack Troak gave the Robins a fourth minute lead.

How to get to the Crowborough Community Stadium

Head east on the A272, taking a right at the roundabout when you reach the A22. At the next roundabout with the McDonalds go left and follow the A26 towards Crowborough.

Just before entering the town, take a right onto Sheep Plain, following the road until you reach Aldervale Cottages on your right. The ground is then on the right nearly immediately after you turn onto the road.

Crowborough have asked that fans please carshare where possible as they are expecting a big crowd because of the groundhop weekend.

On arrival at the Community Stadium, please be patient and follow directions as to where parking is available.
