Robins make short trip to the Haven for a fixture which normally entertains
The final match in a mammoth run of seven consecutive away games takes Hassocks on the short journey to Crawley Down Gatwick.
Remarkably, the Robins have won all six of the matches on the road to stay top of the Southern Combination Premier Division and secure a place in the semi finals of the Peter Bentley League Cup.
That impressive record will face a stern test against Crawley Down in a fixture which tends to guarantee goals and entertainment.
Crawley Down Gatwick this season
The Anvils currently sit seventh in the table with 14 wins, four draws and seven defeats from 25 league matches.
Down do though have games in hand on the teams above them thanks to being the last Southern Combination side standing in the FA Vase.
The Anvils went all the way to the fourth round of the competition, where they were eliminated by Fleet Town in front of a huge crowd at the Haven.
Included in that run was victory over Tunbridge Wells, who knocked Hassocks out on penalties in round two.
Crawley Down Gatwick v Hassocks head-to-head
Crawley Down Gatwick against Hassocks has regularly thrown up ridiculous scorelines such as 5-3 and 6-4 wins for the Robins.
The head-to-head shows 99 goals from just 30 meetings at a rather of better than three per game. Five were plundered in the August Bank Holiday Monday meeting at the Hassocks Hotel Beacon Ground.
Hassocks lead the head-to-head with 15 victories compared to the Anvils’ 10. There have been five draws.
Last time Hassocks played Crawley Down Gatwick
All the goals arrived in the first half as the Robins racked up a seriously impressive 4-1 earlier in the campaign.
Hassocks were 3-0 ahead inside of just 11 minutes. Morgan Vale, tall striker Jamie Wilkes and Big Alex Fair all scored to punish any latecomers to the 11am kick off.
Callum Killkenny pulled one back on 19 for Down with Vale rounding off the scoring two minutes before half time.
The only disappointment was a spot of handbags at the end, not really in keeping with the spirit the rest of the game was played in.
Liam Holden kicked Alfie Loversidge long after the whistle had blown for a free kick. Loversidge reacted and Josh Alder arrived on the scene, resulting in all three players being booked.
Alder asked Mr Lamping why he was flashing so many cards, to which the referee responded “because you’re all being idiots.”
How to get to the Haven
Head through Haywards Heath to Ardingly and onto Turners Hill on the B2028. After Turners Hill, you will enter Crawley Down and come to a fork in the road.
Take a right onto Vicarage Road, following this through the village as it joins Hophurst Lane until the Haven appears on your left.
