Hassocks Ladies have the chance to lift the Sussex Women’s Challenge Trophy for the first time this Thursday 7th March 2019 as they take on local rivals Burgess Hill Town at Culver Road.
It will be the first meeting of the season between two sides who are currently battling each other for silverware on three fronts and has all the makings of a classic.
Both sides are in the running for the South East Counties Women’s Division One West title. Hassocks currently lead the way with a perfect record of played 12 won 12 but the Hillians could still overhaul their Mid Sussex rivals. The Leylands Park based side sit 16 points behind but with three games in hand and they still have to play each other twice in April, leaving the possibility of a six point swing to the chasing Hill very real.
They are also both in the last four of the League Cup against Premier Division opposition. Hassocks will host Saltdean United in their semi final this Sunday as they look to retain the trophy while Hill have a home game with Ashford in 10 days time for a place in the final.
The Robins route to the final saw them squeeze past Bexhill United 2-1 in the first round. They were much more convincing from that point on, picking up an excellent 3-1 win away at Sussex League title challengers AFC Littlehampton Town in the quarter final before hammering Montpelier Villa 7-0 in the last four.
Hill meanwhile have had to work hard for their place at Culver Road. They eked out Pagham and Oakwood 1-0 in the semi and quarter finals respectively having eased past Roffey 6-2 in the opening stage.
Please note that kick off down at Lancing is at the slightly earlier time of 7.15pm.
