The Matthew Harding Cup Final will take place at the Beacon this Friday 5th April as Hassocks Juniors Under 16s take on Hurst Hornets.
The annual challenge match takes place each year to commemorate the life of former Chelsea vice-chairman and friend of Hassocks, Matthew Harding.
Matthew, a resident of Ditchling, was a great supporter of all sections of the football club from the first team right through to the juniors.
Among his contributions were to help fund the installation of the Beacon’s floodlights in 1995 and his family continue to generously assist the Junior Section to this day. His sons Pat and Joel and daughter Katie all played for the Robins.
To celebrate this fact, Hassocks Juniors host the Matthew Harding Cup Final every year against an invited opponent. For 2019, those opponents will be provided by local rivals Hurst Hornets, with whom the current Under 16s have been involved in a battle for Mid Sussex League supremacy over the past four years.
That should make for an entertaining evening of football at the Beacon. Entrance is free and all of the normal matchday facilities will be open, including the Robins Bar selling alcohol and the T Bar for hot food and drink and snacks.
