The second-biggest ninth tier crowd across the whole country of 261 turned out at the Saffrons for Eastbourne Town’s annual charity day, helping to raise a staggering £1060 for Memory Lane, a local charity who help provide social activities for those with dementia and their carers.
On the pitch, it was Town who picked up the three points via a 2-1 win although they were made to work hard for it. Sonny Dullaway and Marcus Goldsmith bot netted for the hosts in the space of five minutes early in the second half.
Hassocks pulled one back through James Westlake’s first goal of the season to set up a nervy last 20 minutes which, despite Mark Dalgleish throwing on a host of strikers, Town managed to safely navigate for victory.
