Robins to visit Horley Town on opening day

The 2019-20 Southern Combination League Premier Division fixtures have been released with Hassocks travelling to newcomers Horley Town on the opening day of the season.

The Robins will go the New Defence on Saturday 3rd August for what will be the Clarets first fixture in the Southern Combination League since their move from the Combined Counties League.

Hassocks and Horley have only ever met once before in competitive action. That came in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase in September 2016 with Town running out 4-2 winners.

East Preston will be the first visitors to the Beacon three days later on Tuesday 6th August with the extra preliminary qualifying round of the FA Cup following on Saturday 10th August.

Tough looking trips to Horsham YMCA on Saturday 17th and Pagham on Tuesday 20th come next with Lancing visiting the Beacon on August Bank Holiday Monday for an 11am kick off.

September starts with a trip to Eastbourne Town on the 7th and that’s followed by the highlight of the month as Hassocks visit Broadbridge Heath’s new High Wood Sports Ground on Tuesday 10th. Back-to-back home games with Lingfield and Loxwood on the 21st and the 28th complete the month.

The Robins start October with a trip to Langney Wanderers on the 5th. AFC Uckfield Town come to the Beacon on the 19th and Mark Dalgleish takes his side to Eastbourne United on the 26th.

Little Common visit Mid Sussex on November 2nd before a first ever meeting between Hassocks and Division One champions Alford at the Recreation Ground on the 9th.

Trips to the Haven tend to throw up all manner of entertainment when Hassocks are involved so Crawley Down Gatwick away on the 16th is one to mark on the calendar before November finishes with tough home fixtures against Newhaven and Peacehaven & Telscombe.

The first return fixture of the season kicks off December as the Robins go to the Lashmar to face East Preston on the 7th and Horley come to the Beacon on the 14th.

Hassocks’ final game before Christmas will be a first league meeting with Steyning Town since the 1994-95 season when the two clubs were in Division One.

With no other Mid Sussex teams in the Premier Division this season, Hassocks’ Boxing Day local derby fixture is away at Saltdean United while 2020 kicks off with Pagham coming to Mid Sussex on January 4th.

Hassocks go to Lancing on the 11th with back-to-back home games against Horsham YMCA and Eastbourne Town following on the 18th and February 1st.

Loxwood away is on the 8th, Langney Wanderers come to the Beacon on the 15th and the Robins go to the Oaks to face AFC Uckfield Town on the 22nd.

As 2020 is a leap year, there is the added bonus of a rare fixture on February 29th when Broadbridge Heath make the trip to Mid Sussex.

The penultimate month of the campaign starts with a visit to Lingfield on March 7th. Alford come to Hassocks for the first time on the 14th with away games against Little Common and Newhaven on the 21st and 28th respectively.

Crawley Down Gatwick make the short trip to the Beacon on Saturday April 4th. Dalgleish returns to the his former club Steyning on the 11th as Hassocks go to the Shooting Field and two days later there is an 11am kick off at home as Saltdean United visit on Easter Monday.

The Robins then go to Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday 18th with the season concluding against Eastbourne United at home on Saturday 25th.
