Hassocks v AFC Uckfield Town postponed due to waterlogged pitch

This afternoon’s Southern Combination League Premier Division match between Hassocks and AFC Uckfield Town has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Mid Sussex has been hit with a barrage of rain over the last week and after an early inspection of the Beacon by the match referee it has been decided to call off the game.

Last season, it took four attempts to get the Oakmen’s visit to Hassocks played. The original fixture scheduled for November was moved due to Uckfield’s continued involvement in the FA Vase.

Anthony Storey’s side embarked on an historic run which was only ended in January at the fourth round stage by Windsor.

The second and third attempts both fell to wet weather with the game eventually being played at the fourth time of asking, Uckfield winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Dee Okojie and Taylor Maddock. Phil Johnson got the Robins’ consolation.

No new date has been set for the rearranged fixture yet. Please keep an eye on our website and social media profiles for news about when that will take place, as well as the date and time of our Sussex Senior Cup second round tie against Lancing which is also to be scheduled.

As for the rest of this weekend’s fixtures, the Ladies trip to Lewes is set to take place on the 3G pitch at the Rookery so shouldn’t be affected.

The Under 18s are due to visit Southwick and that may yet fall to the weather. Again, we’ll endeavour to post updates on social media should that be the case.
