Robins get fighting fit with Brighton & Hove ABC

Hassocks’ first team squad have been put through their paces over the last couple of weeks with training sessions at Brighton & Hove Amateur Boxing Club.

Trainer Matthew Etherington led the sessions, designed to work on various aspects of the team’s fitness. Hassocks assistant manager Brad Sweetman said, “Matt at Brighton & Hove Amateur Boxing Club put on an intense session for all the lads. It pushed their fitness brilliantly and allowed the players to let off some steam too.”

Letting off steam was probably much needed given the frustrating recent run of results that the Robins have been on.

Sweetman wasn’t revealing who the best in the ring was, although given that manager Mark Dagleish is due to take part in a charity boxing event in December, you’d hope that he’d be near the top of the pile!

Dalgleish steps into the ring on Saturday 14th December at the Brighton Metropole with all money raised going to charity.

If you’d like to see him get knocked around a bit, then tickets are available from as little as £20. Please speak to Mark or enquire behind the Robins Bar at our next home game.

Matt and Brighton & Hove ABC are also helping to put Dalgleish through his paces in preparation for the event. The Club, based at the King Alfred Leisure Centre in Hove, was founded in 1946 and recently became a registered professional boxing gym.

They count former world title contender Scott Welch among their trainers, the local former professional boxer having been a champion in both Britain and the Commonwealth in a 37 fight career.

Hassocks are also in good company in terms of football teams training with the Club; Brighton & Hove Albion sent their Under 18s along for sessions during pre-season in order to work on their fitness.

Hopefully, the time spent with Brighton & Hove ABC will have the Robins punching their way up the Premier Division table over the next few weeks.
