It was a disappointing October by-and-large for Hassocks but one man who shone was Harvey Enticknap who has been voted as the Robins’ Player of the Month.
The midfielder took 41% of supporters votes to finish in the top three for the first time this season, beating Harvey Blake and Luke Marshall to the award.
Enticknap started all four of Hassocks’ games, giving arguably his best performance in the 4-0 defeat away at Langney Wanderers in which he was selected as Man-of-the-Match.
He played a crucial role in October’s only win, that crazy 6-4 extra time triumph against Arundel in the Sussex Senior Cup with a domineering display in the holding role.
There were also cultured displays in the Peter Bentley League Cup loss to Langney and the 4-1 Premier Division defeat away at Eastbourne United.
All in all, it was a welcome return to form for a player who had so struggled to nail down a regular starting spot before this month.
Harvey Blake may have missed the victory at Arundel, but that couldn’t stop him securing second spot behind Enticknap with a 32% share of the vote.
Blake became the senior member of an inexperienced defence throughout most of the month as an unprecedented injury and unavailability crisis hit Mark Dalgleish’s squad particularly hard in the defensive positions.
As a result, Blake captained the Robins for the first time in the League Cup fixture with Langney, leading a back line that was otherwise made up of teenagers through a difficult assignment.
It was one of those teenage defenders who stepped into the breach who finished third with 17-year-old Luke Marshall taking 15% to just pip Jamie Hillwood to a spot in the top three.
Marshall made his senior debut away at Arundel but he underlined his promise with a display that belied his tender years in what was a crazy evening of football at Mill Road.
He maintained his place for the two games with Langney Wanderers before making a fourth and final appearance from the bench in the away match with Eastbourne United.
In an excellent month for the young defender, he was also a part of the Under 23s side who shocked Isthmian League Three Bridges in the Sussex Under 23 Challenge Cup and played in all of the Under 18s Fixtures as they plundered 24 goals in just three games, conceding only two along the way.
