Hassocks will host Langney Wanderers at the Beacon for the third time this season on Tuesday March 24th with a 7.45pm kick off.
The original tie had been due to take place on Saturday 15th February ago but fell to a 10am inspection.
The decision was taken with parts of the pitch already waterlogged following another week of incessant rain hitting Mid Sussex and with further wet weather and high winds expected over the course of the next 48 hours from Dennis, there seemed little prospect that the game would reach a conclusion even if it did start.
That was something of a blow to Hassocks, who would have come into the tie in good spirits following their magnificent comeback victory against Horsham YMCA four days earlier.
Hassocks had trailed 2-0 inside of seven minutes but two goals in the final seven minutes from Phil Johnson and George Galbraith-Gibbons delivered a shock 3-2 win to spark jubilant scenes around the Beacon.
Langney’s visit would have been the fourth meeting between the sides in 2019-20 and the third in Mid Sussex. Hassocks won the first 2-0 in the FA Cup back in August thanks to goals from Jack Rowe-Hurst and Matt Berridge while Wanderers went onto triumph 4-0 at Priory Lane in the league and 4-2 at the Beacon in the Peter Bentley League Cup, two games which took place within seven October days of each other.
Prior to this season’s frequent clashes, Hassocks had only faced Langney twice in competitive action. Wanderers enjoyed their first ever campaign in the top flight of the Southern Combination League in the 2018-19 season in which both meetings ended in 2-2 draws.
Langney’s second season in the Premier Division is going extremely well so far as they chase a top 10 finish under the guidance of new boss Simon Colbran. They are currently ninth in the table with nine wins, seven draws and nine defeats from 25 games.
