Hassocks find out their September opponents as league fixtures released

The first month of fixtures in the Southern Combination Premier Division have been released with Hassocks opening their league campaign with a trip to Alfold on Saturday 5th September 2020.

It will be the Robins’ first ever meeting with ‘Fold, who are embarking on their second campaign in the top flight. Three times last season the away match in Surrey was postponed due to wet weather with the meeting at the Beacon twice going the same way before the season was cancelled.

Hassocks’ first home fixture comes three days later against Lancing on Tuesday 8th September. The Lancers were leading the way at the top of the table last term and will represent an extremely tough test for the Robins with new managers Kane Louis and James Rhodes retaining the services of most of the squad who looked on course to become champions.

Steyning Town are the next visitors to the Beacon on Tuesday 15th September. Last season’s meeting with the Barrowmen was an entertaining affair as Steyning somewhat controversially ended the afternoon with only nine men. That helped Hassocks on their way to three very vital points secured by goals from Harvey Enticknap and Dan Stokes.

Hassocks go to Eastbourne Town on Saturday 26th September looking to improve on a 4-1 defeat at the Saffrons and a 7-0 hammering at the Beacon last season. The month ends with another Tuesday night home fixture against Pagham on Tuesday 29th September. Goals from Liam Benson and Harvey Blake secured a 2-0 win over the Lions in the last meeting back in January.

In addition to their league commitments, the Robins have two cup games in September. Their opening fixture comes in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Qualifying Round away at Balham on Tuesday 1st September. Peacehaven & Telscombe then provide the opposition at the Beacon in the FA Vase on Saturday 19th September.
